Sports Gaming: Progression
Posted on September 20, 2011 at 03:00 PM.
What's up OS its xyience here with another topic, and if you haven't checked out my last blog Madden:Little big brothers" then go take a look and don't be afraid to comment, debate, etc...thanx..
On to the discussion..I'm going to do a brief intermission on the progress of the following titles NBA 2K, Madden NFL football, NCAA football, NBA live, MLB 2K..I don't have a ps3 at the moment so some would have to enlighten me on MLB THE SHOW..thanx

First up (NBA 2K)

[2K6] was a big step up from its little big brother of last Gen consoles(IMO every attempt past 2k3 was a disappointment)

[2k7 & 2k8] were huge steps ahead of 2k6 but not from each other. They were similar IMO but very good games non the less, me and my fellow teammates spent hours after practice playing each one.

[2k9] was a heavy hitter with BIG improvements in the graphic department. I will never forget my first time playing..big wow factor with the life like animations and I was just in practice mode...but online took a big hit in quality, over all it was a very good game.

[2k10] was a disappointment it felt rushed, and was broken out the box. With limited improvements, bug infested game play, was not control friendly with "terrible online quality ..74 points with Gerald Wallace in a LG game just off baseline layups..my player was ok but got stale really fast..OHHH but you best believe it lasted til 11

[2k11] master peice even with the issues the good outweighed the bad..In a league of its own

2k12 demo is already a more polished 11 with mind blow smooth gameplay and side shinnanigons...Improvement in my eyes.

(NBA live)

hmmm NBA live where do I start...

[06-08] was ughh..the same, if I had to choose the best out of the three it would be 06..to me they went went backwards after that..

[09] was a somewhat step up with the lovely player DNA and the addictive academy feature..I spent more time doing that than actually playing games..09 was nothing special.

[10] "WOW" one of EA biggest sports jumps in all of there titles..it had detail, innovation, controles, and strategy...I'm gonna look back and say live 10 damn near surpass 2k 10 in alot of areas before that dreadful patch...

[Elite]???!!!%%%°°^^€£ something really went haywire..

(NCAA football)

[06-10] were baby steps in pursuit of an identify for the franchise with the game stripped down from previous Gen..these selected years were very bare bone when it came to depth and innovation..

[11] the title was reinvented around solid gameplay and stellar graphics one of the better football games around if not the best for the next gen consoles... no where near great... Just a big step up from previous failure.

[12] almost a carbon copy of 11 with hdr lighting, collision system, CC, and added more intros..still missing alot, but from the jump 11 made I thought 12 would knock it out the park...BUT YOU KNOW EA WOULDNT ALLOW NCAA TO OUT DO MADDEN..."take a seat NCAA 12" back to baby steps..

MLB 2K
[07-08] wasn't any think close to special and still isn't in the same breath with MVP..but they were somewhat the same..not big improvements but 07 was very fun IMO..

[09] went backwards, the game was a glitch field...I thought they were going to cancel the series..

[10] was a major step in the right direction but still had its problems..still was very fun to play.. my favorite one..

[11] felt like a roster update from 10 with minor improvements but IMO graphically identical but to each is on...

(Madden)
Umm umm um..SMH thru the years
[06-09] identity crises..Casual gamers, Tournament mode, WWE, sim, online?????? Who are you catering too..years of pre mature baby steps and pure STRUGGLE.

[10] was an alien breed compared to the three years before it...pretty much improved and add modes like online franchise...new interface for franchise mode, different speed levels, signature throwing motions, big presentation jump, new run animations, and the "NEW" PROTAK..10 was not perfect but was a {step in the direction}

[11] I new it was to good to be true, another pre mature baby step after making a huge leap...almost every thing I listed from 10 was copied and paste to 11..didn't even touch the raving new feature Protak..all modes went untouched..added loco"ice skate"motion and game flow..11 was pretty much watered down to novice level.

[12] is a nice jump IMO should of been 11 but overall its decent non the less..it just eat at me when I hear the quote {12 is a step in the right direction} 12 is the best football game on current
Gen consoles, but that's not saying much..I must admit this is the only madden that's still in my possession after the first 3weeks

(College hoops)

[06-08] was Ahead of its time and IMO had the hoop Edge over both of the NBA titles.
only imagine seeing CH2k12 on the shelves this fall..

March Madness/NCAA BB
[07-08] SMH baby steps and absolute STRUGGLE

[09] was borderline of being playable but was still not a jump of improvement..

[10] had the cliche quote {headed in the right direction} this game was a patch away from good but unplayable due to all the freezing...it was headed to the promise land of the big sports titles but skid under the radar due to the horrible installments before it. If only this game could return with more under the hood work..

Call me crazy but I feel that all these titles took the first three years off..IMO NBA 2k is the only game that progression shows its mark..the only game that's keep my mind focused in on that title release year and not the cliche " maybe next year"

CH2k couldve shouldve wouldve but cancelled due to weak sells..thats to bad, I believe this game would bust through barriers..

FIFA NHL & THE SHOW...I only played demos but could never muster up enough energy to buy do to my 27% knowledge of hockey and soccer..like I said I don't have my Ps3 anymore to remember THE SHOWS progress.

Fill me in on the other 3 games..until next time OS I'm out...peace

THE SHOW: 06, A game that built itself back up from scratch from years of mediocrity in another studio. It was a very sudden "I am here," which wowed many, including the OS Reviewer. However, though the foundation was set for all the other games with a proven formula, it seems primitive compared to improvements later on. It established the strengths of the series being innovative and deep modes, fluid controls, sim-difficulty, graphics, nailing local-style TV broadcast presentation, and getting you really pumped with all the little details.

07: The first next gen title, was somewhat lackluster and bug filled, but changed the game with the introduction of Road to the Show.

08: This was the first of two monster years of improvements, particularly graphically.

09: This was the most special of the games in my opinion, building tremendously on already stunning graphics, and really making the game incredibly realistic through great AI. The Franchise mode added depth beyond competitors. The little details continued to be amazing.

10: This was the first game that made people question whether the game was showing its age. There were no radical differences to modes, online play was not really improved from its previous unplayable state as promised, and real time presentation wasn't really that innovative. However, it continued to be a very realistic and beautiful game.

11: While the commentary started to degrade, even with a change of color commentator, the details in this game, the new control scheme, the new RTTS, and more really put the series back on track in my opinion. If they were to incorporate 2k's real life stat tracking and some of their presentation elements as well as relative online stability, it would easily be a game of NBA 2k's caliber. However, this year also taught me not to expect them to change their formula, just build on what they do really well and take it to incredible heights.

To be honest, 2k could just throw the rookies in the game and make minor tweaks and I would still buy NBA 2k12. That they have dedicated that many hours and made that many improvements, I'm just astonished.

I think as a whole that sports games for the most part are going backwards. Sure, NHL 12 and NBA 2K11 are solid games, but it took way to long to get there. I am very disappointed with NCAA 12. The no huddle glitch upset me, and the RPG elements with the dynasty mode aren't very good. Don't let me take the top job right away I need to work up to it. I explain all my feelings in an article I just wrote.

Thanks for taking a look, I really feel like EA is holding out on us. The NFL should look at multiple developers for a little while once the current contract ends

cycles happen in sports gaming or some reason. I rememer getting Gameday 98 and just being completly blown away and so in 99 I had to get the new one and instead they tried a completly new game style why would you do that?! I think Madden has been having the same problem they still want features to sell the game but, really all we want on the box is "fixed all the broken crap" that would be funny as heck to see. this generation of sports games are really lost compared to Sega Genisis era and what I will call the Golden age era in the PS2/Xbox age.
